Monday, April 30th, 2007 | Weddings
Hi,
I am wanting to propose to my girlfriend and am wondering the best place in the world to shop for a diamond engagement ring. I want to buy her a 1 carat platinum ring (good quality).
Where are the cheaper places to shop for such an item?????

It depends on where you live.
If you are near Los Angeles, the diamond market is best in downtown. 6th and Spring St at Hill St

Sears catalogue!
Or try a cubic zirconia. You can get one for $200 that looks like a real 1/2 carat diamond ring.

The best place is a pawn shop. You can find amazing deals there. If she doesn’t like the setting you can have a jeweler reset the stone.

you can try looking on this web sight they have different store locations. my husband has bought me jewelry from this store before and i love it! i also love platinum but platinum can be a bit pricey, so i opted for white gold, still just as beautiful. good luck happy hunting!!!

Don’t go through a pawn shop unless you just buy the diamond & have it reset. the Jewelry Exchange is where my husband & I go (he got me my engagement ring & we went back for our wedding bands). They have gorgeous stuff and you can even design your own. They have a few locations, our local one is Philly, but their website is:
Congratulations & Good Luck!!

I will give you the advice that I wish my fiance would have taken. Don’t buy the ring from the US. My boss bought his wife’s ring from a jewelry store on St. Maarten (or St. Martin) island and it is a georgous diamond. As my wedding present my fiance will be upgrading my centerstone to a 1.50 ct, round, G, SI-1. i am sure that there is a ton of great jewelry stores on the island that you could use. I would start by checking out. Their website doesn’t look the best, but there deals are awesome and they are very trustworthy. E-mail me if you have any questions. I love talking about diamonds.

The best thing that you can do is shop around. I don’t know if you have one in your area but GM Pollock and Sons is a great store. Not sure about the prices though..
Stay away from the mall jewelry stores.. My ring there was quoted at 9k and my Husband got the same exact one for 4500.
Congratulations!

Try the….
Gordons jewelry in the mall have good prices
Any where practically around this time of year with valentines being tomorrow
Most jewelry stores have layaway plans for 3 months… if you cant afford it up front… and credit cards are a great way
I wouldnt suggest going to sears, or walmart or target or khols or jcpennies… there value isnt as great
Most jewelry stores will let you trade in the ring to upgrade later on and dont depreciate in value.. I believe that Zales is one of them… Good luck and Congrats!

The words “cheap” and “1 carat platinum diamond ring” are not synonymous! There is no such thing. 1 carat is expensive, platinum is expensive. Good luck.

try
My ring came from them. The best thing to do is buy a platinum wedding SET (engagement ring plus wedding ring that are clipped together, designed that way). It will save you money. Then buy a loose diamond to put in it. Also if you cant afford much choose ROUND diamonds because it is easier to get a lower quality diamond that looks good and is white in color. I love princess (square) diamonds but if you cant afford a really good one they can look yellowish if you get a low quality one.
Platinum is not cheap so plan on spending at least 3,000 for a nice ring. If you want a cheap one then choose white gold and you can put more money into the quality of the diamond.

shop for a better quality than price. this will please your partner and she will cherish her 1st engagement ring for life time
Engagement rings need not always contain diamonds. Popular trends include using gemstones as sidestones as well as other precious stones.
