Can most people tell the difference between a “J” colored diamond engagement ring and an “I” colored one?

Today’s Einstein asked:
I’m wondering if the color difference is noticeable with the naked eye, while the diamond is separate from other diamonds.

Diamond engagement rings?

GSUgirl asked:
I’m doing a report on diamonds and I would like to know how women and men feel about diamond engagment rings. How big of a role do they play in engagements? Do women feel like the diamond says a lot about the couple’s love? How do men view this purchase? Is it important that the diamond shows their love to the perfect woman? Do women and men feel like this shows a certain social status? Do you see buying diamonds as a good investment? How do you see the value of a good diamond? I would like some first hand answers from married or engaged men and women.

Engagement rings - Moissanite? Diamond Nexus Labs?

G Lady asked:
I’m looking at possible engagement rings for my b/f to buy but a lot of them seem real expensive. To tell the truth I’d rather put that money toward a nice wedding or honeymoon! I’m looking for something that’s not over 1,500 - I know some people want huge rings but I wear a size 5 ring so my hands are fairly small. Does anyone know anything about the stone Moissanite? Anyone have that stone instead of a diamond? I’ve read some mixed reviews. I also found this website called “diamond nexus labs” http://diamondnexuslabs.com/jewelry/index.php?cPath=63_65 and I’m wondering if they are legit because the prices are super low - I know they are not real diamonds but they claim to be the closest gem to the real thing. Any suggestions on these stones or suggestions on where we should look for inexpensive diamond rings?

Antique engagement ring and diamond certification?

M L asked:
In order to avoid any regret or ethical dillemma in supporting the diamond industry, I am opting to buy an antique diamond engagement ring from an antique jewelry dealer. I have found a gorgeous 1920s filligree solitaire, and would like to purchase. The diamond is an old european cut. The return policy is “no returns”, so I want to be as careful as possible. Question is, are old diamonds like this often certified? How much does it cost to certify them? Also, the ring is 14k white gold (nickel alloy) with recent rhodium plating. Could the rhodium plating cover up any serious flaws or damage (no problems are apparent)? Thanks!

What do you think of non-diamond engagement rings?

I never really thought much of them myself, but my boyfriend proposed to me friday night and gave me a ring with a teardrop alexandrite, offset by a tiny speck of a diamond, and I absolutely love it. What do you think about non-diamond engagement rings? Love them? Hate them? Indifferent? Why?
And before anyone brings this up, I’m not looking for opinions on my ring- I love it and no one’s answer is going to change my mind on that. I’m just curious what people think of non-diamond engagement rings in general, because I never thought about them much before.

Engagement rings need not always contain diamonds. Popular trends include using gemstones as sidestones as well as other precious stones.
