Beavis asked:

The diamond you buy at a jewrey store could be 2nd hand. How would you know. Where is the best place to buy an engagement ring if you want a new stone? Where would I find the best value?

Make sure it has a GIA (or other certification) certification and check the date on it. The certification will add to the price ($100+) but then you will know.

Bring it to a witch doctor and see if he can detect and prior owner’s soul being captured within the diamonds crystaline structure. You can then draw the blood of a red headed virgin. If the stone floats, it a new stone. If it sinks, then it’s what’s known in the business as “whore” quality.

Your best bet is to start eating charcoal. If you swallow enough, you might poop out a “new stone” in the next 2 to 3 thousand years.

Engagement rings need not always contain diamonds. Popular trends include using gemstones as sidestones as well as other precious stones.
