Just about every precious stone comes from the slave labor of minorities, especially diamonds. Get a Cracker Jacks ring.

my momma always told me that your engagement ring is the start of your life with him…start your life however your wanna and do not feel bad about it; he’s your dream guy, it’s your dream ring and it is our duty as women to dream original, unique, and big cause if we don’t who will?
my engagement ring is a plain silver band with an inscription on the inside—I don’t like the way stones look on my stubby fingers and I figure our love is beautiful as is no need to dress it up with whose got the most expensive diamond like my girlfriends do!
Sooo get whatever makes you happy and don’t look back no matter what anyone says

it is your ring, but if he picks it out…and it ends up being a diamond, dont be upset……it is the thaught that counts
i actully would like maybe to have some garnet or emeralds with my diamond.

My my my, we are hard to please are we not? Consider your self luck that you have found someone who cares enough to get you a ring in the first place. Material things are useless. it is LOVE that counts. (and the thought)

No, That’s awesome, Get the ring you want. I’m pretty sure you’ll get something diamond throughout the marriage. LOL

If you truly can’t decide, mixing stones is cool. One diamond inbetween two sapphires? It would make the ring more neutral in color. In my opinion, a diamond is almost never tacky, I personally do not like the great big diamonds, they lack sparkle. I like the traditional brilliant cut, in a size less than 1/2 the distance from knukle to fingertip..
Indep has it right, whatever you want, makes you happy, you should have. Ring styles will come and go many times in your lifetime, whatever you pick will be in style now, and again later, in the future. And, for some future female in your liniage, it will be a keepsake. Can’t you hear her voice from the future, “this was my Great Grandmother’s engagement ring. Gramma was a rebel, she wanted sapphires for her ring, and she got them!”
And LOL, make your fiancee happy, and keep the price of it to within his budget!.
Congrats to the groom, and best wishes to the bride.

Firstly, you are too young to get married, besides that, have you heard all the things about why diamonds are so not on top of the list anymore. I definitely suggest getting that sapphire ring if that is what you want. Good luck to you….and yes, you are making the right decision. My question is, why does a diamond symbol the true love of a marriage?

What’s more important: your future husband or the ring?

A sapphire is a wonderful and magical stone, though there is nothing tacky about diamonds either. A white, yellow or any other sapphire has positively good effect on an individual’s life.
The blue sapphire is ruled by planet saturn, so ya be careful on that. It could be very lucky for some, but not all. Make sure a blue sapphire is your lucky stone. You sure dont want to have a marriage like Princess Di ?

An engagement ring can be a diamond ring, a band or a color stone ring. It does not matter. I like diamonds but I like the ring you are talking about also. I feel the ring should be representative of you love and commitment to each other. You should like it and wear it. It should be the style you like.

Diamonds are never tacky. But if you want a sapphire, let him buy you a sapphire. No big deal.

A diamond is never tacky (especially not if someone else gives it to you). It may be unethical, it may be supporting the artificially created De Beer monopoly, but it’s not tacky.
But you can have whatever stone you want as an engagement ring. (Personally I’ve told my guy that I want Mossanite - fake diamond. It sparkles like the real thing for a tenth of the cost .. . . sigh, maybe I’m just not romantic)

I agree with you. I didn’t want a diamond. Did the sapphire too. I just don’t like diamonds. To boot diamonds geologically speaking are a dime a dozen. It’s the gemstones that are more rare. Beyond that there are possible added benefits to your decision. Your bf/fiance will love you too not as expensive. Money spent on things like these and the wedding (to be perfectly honest) are sometime best not too expensive because later you’ll rather have the money for things like a down payment on a house. I still regret spending as much as we did on our wedding (though it was fun and we had a great time with our family and friends).

Go with whatever your bf chooses for you.

You should get whatever you want. There’s nothing that states that an engagement ring must be a diamond.
If you don’t like the look of diamonds, then by all means, get a different stone. Just make sure that its something you’ll like for a really long time.

Go ahead. It’s good to be unique. However, a diamond ring is not tacky, just usual and common.
Engagement rings need not always contain diamonds. Popular trends include using gemstones as sidestones as well as other precious stones.
