i am 20 years old and would like a sapphire engagement ring (like princess di’s) because i think that a diamond engagement ring would look tacky on my finger. do you think i’m making the right decision?

Yes. Sometimes diamonds can be cliche, so sapphire is a great choice. Best wishes.

A sapphire ring sounds fine. You’re very young, and a diamond solitaire, unless it’s a small one, would make you seem older. There’s time enough to get a diamond in due course. The last thing you want is a ring that’s too expensive to be worn on a daily basis and then it just sits in your drawer. Congratulations on your engagement.

Hey it’s your ring, how can it be the wrong decision?

A sapphire ring sounds like a wonderful choice. Just make sure your guy knows what you want. Best Wishes

Absolutely, do with what you like… you’re going to be the one wearing it, and if you pick something other than what your heart is set on, you won’t respect or like it.

Just an opinion, diamonds are never tacky if they are good quality (the color is most important and should be as white as possible but you should have what you like, I also think 20 is way too young to be engaged! (been there done that divorce to prove it!)

Aside from the obvious — that you should get what you want most — a sapphire engagment ring would be a real conversation piece.
“Wow, that’s awesome. It’s so unique.” Etc. Etc. Etc.
And as every girl knows, being the envy of the village is half the fun. LOL!
Get it and enjoy it.

There’s one thing to worry about though…. If you have something other than a diamond on, it might be unclear if you are married or not. That is, a lot of women wear rings on their left ring finger merely for decoration, but a diamond ring says with certainty that you are married. You might want to consider a ring with a large sapphire,*accented* with diamonds or balanced with a diamond. This could give you a look that works better with your skin tone (and perhaps age!).
If diamonds look strange on you, there’s a chance gold doesn’t go well with your skin type either. You might want to look into a platinum band (would go great with a sapphire).
Personally, I have some reservations about sapphire rings, because they remind me of my grandmother and her generation….
And it’s *not* something that you have to live with for the rest of your life! (I’m not talking about divorce!). A lot of people (including my mother) have their rings “up-graded” for anniversaries. If you ever decide that you want to go for a more “traditional” look, just say “honey, for our 5th anniversary, why don’t we change the sapphire for a diamond… *ahem* a bigger diamond?”
But in any case, I *do* recommend that you make sure that you have at least one diamond somewhere on your wedding or engagement ring… otherwise, some people *will* think you aren’t married. Understand?
Good luck! Have a happy wedding and a great marriage!

I think that since a diamond is traditionial people will know that you’re engaged but if you get a saphire they might not know but just think it’s a beautiful ring. it’s your choice though. you could always get a colored diamond like champagne or something. those are cool!

Maybe you are too tacky for the diamond.
Engagement rings need not always contain diamonds. Popular trends include using gemstones as sidestones as well as other precious stones.
