When buying an engagement ring do you wait for your diamond to get set?

diamond engagement rings
advice needed…. asked:

We bought a diamond from a different vendor than the person we got the engagement ring. When we’re getting the diamond set in the ring, do you wait for it to get done? Do you trust the jeweler to set your diamond in the right ring?

Hopefully your going to a reputable jeweler but your right to be concerned. Is your diamond lazer inscribed? Could you pick it out from an impostor? If it has any flaws in it make sure you take a close look with the scope and have the associate sketch a copy of where these occlusions are so you can recheck after having it set and make sure it’s the right diamond. I wouldn’t worry about not getting the right ring, just make sure you don’t get your diamond switched.

I had my diamond engagement ring switched although I couldn’t press charges because I had no proof it wasn’t the same diamond. I had dropped it off at a local jewelry and stone store to have it sized and when I picked it up the next day my diamond didn’t look right. I thought it was just me and left the store but realized later this diamond had an obvious spot in it mine never had. It was also cut crooked. I dug out my papers on my original diamond and unfortunately there was no inscription or purchasing description on my diamond so there was no way I could prove they stole my diamond. ——I felt so bad about it for years my husband (big sweetie) bought me a new diamond even bigger and this time we had it registered and insured. I know every little glitter in this one so I’ll know if it’s every taken.
If you can wait in store….I’d wait. Just make sure they know— that you know– your diamond and you will not be dooped.

We trusted the jeweler and left it with them. They set it in the back room. We actually had the 2nd jeweler confirm the first one gave us the stone we asked for.
