What’s wrong with wanting a beautiful engagement ring?

What is wrong with wanting a beautiful peice of jewelery, especially when it means something? My b/f of 4 yeas says he doesn’t want to spend money on a rock and metal. I love having my grandparents wedding jewelry, it makes me feel closer to them, I have a pendant made out of my grandmas diamond engagement ring, and a ring made out of my grandpa’s wedding band and my father’s class ring. These items are so special to me. Jewelery like this holds more significance than just sitting there and looking pretty. Does anyone else agree with me?

Would you consider a “lab-created diamond” for an engagement ring?

Snarf asked:

My fiance does not really have any of his own savings to put towards a ring, and he has some debt which I would much rather him pay off than save for a ring for me. So we were thinking of going the created diamond route, just so I can have something to show that we are engaged. Do you think most people can tell it is not real? Has anyone seen any of these in person? It is hard to tell the quality from the website, we would get one that is not too large to make it look more real.

This is the one we are looking at (click on enlarge to see clearly)

What do you think?
Any thoughts on this particular ring?

Will my gold/diamond ring be safe in the shower?

Religious Does Not = Christian! asked:

My wonderful boyfriend surprised me with a gorgeous betrothal ring (kind of an engagement ring jr.). It’s made of white gold and diamonds. I never take it off, except to cook with ground beef or to do clay crafts. He’s concerned that I might lose the diamonds in the shower. He thinks they may come loose and slip out. I know there are lots of women who never take off their wedding/engagement rings with diamonds in them. And I know that diamonds and gold are tough materials that can withstand a LOT. But this ring is the most precious object that I own, and I won’t take chances.

How many of you wear diamonds 24/7? Has anyone had one come loose?

It was made at Jared, if that’s an important detail.
No way did he get me a lower metal and claim it was gold! He’s a romantic. Besides, I’ve seen both the receipt (had to have it sized) and the mark on the band.

Thanks so much for your answers. I hope this puts his mind at ease.

And virtually gave you a pink diamond engagement ring? Hehe.
Just curious.

Engagement rings need not always contain diamonds. Popular trends include using gemstones as sidestones as well as other precious stones.
