Would you consider a “lab-created diamond” for an engagement ring?
Sunday, January 4th, 2009 | Weddings
My fiance does not really have any of his own savings to put towards a ring, and he has some debt which I would much rather him pay off than save for a ring for me. So we were thinking of going the created diamond route, just so I can have something to show that we are engaged. Do you think most people can tell it is not real? Has anyone seen any of these in person? It is hard to tell the quality from the website, we would get one that is not too large to make it look more real.
This is the one we are looking at (click on enlarge to see clearly)

What do you think?
Any thoughts on this particular ring?

A ring is a ring. What matters it where it comes from (intention-wise) and whether or not you like it.

mine is a lab created emerald. i’m not interested in how much it was. i’m just loving the fact that he got me one:)

My guess would be NO one would know it’s lab created. They tend to be rather perfect! Go for it, I would!

Nah lab diamonds aren’t very romantic. You’ll regret it later on. A small natural diamond is 10x more romantic than a large lab diamond.

If he loves you and you love him and want to marry him and spend your life with him, then the ring doesn’t even matter.
The ring is meant to symbolize that you are committed to one another. The price doesn’t even matter.
If you guys are ready to be engaged and a simulated diamond is good for the both of you then go for it! Best of luck.

I would it’s still a real gem. It’s not a CZ or anything!
I would ,however, be careful to see that they’re arnt any noticable flaws so poeople wouldnt know it’s a lab created.

Those are the closest thing to the real diamonds they just dont take thousands of years to be created!! They are gorgeous!
January 16, 2009
It’s the same thing
No one will know!
hehhe

You can get whatever you want and most people will never ask “is it real?” except for a few tacky people. A big red flag for people thinking something is fake is if it’s really big and gaudy…so I think you are OK.

I dont think you’ll be able to tell its not real, it’d be fine but I noticed that the smallest diamond size listed for that ring is a little over $500 & if you go to a jewelry store, you can get a ring for cheaper or around the same as that with real diamonds. Granted, the ring wouldnt be anywhere near as elaborate as that one. Sometimes jewelry stores have sales on rings & depending on your style, you can get them a lot cheaper.
Just a thought =] That ring is very pretty & if you have your heart set on a ring that style obviously you wont find one with real diamonds for that price. Also, you can pay so much a month on jewelry at a jewelry store that will help your credit more since its a luxury item.

A ring is a ring is a ring. You get what you can afford. Fancy ring, cheap ring, no ring, you are still engaged.
If this is what you can afford, wear it with pride. Anyone who is rude enough to question your ring cost or authenticity is too rude to deserve an answer, in my opinion.
Don’t forget to shop around..sometimes you can find nice quality rings (with “real”/natural diamonds) at a great price too.
Good luck and enjoy your new ring!
Edit:
Attention all ignorant Americans:
Some of the best and most popular diamonds in the world come from Canada…not all diamonds are “blood diamonds”…it was a movie folks.

thats a gorgeous ring!
I would totally consider it
and to Kjersti G — “It’s not a CZ!”
I have a CZ e-ring and wedding band
heres the links to them, they are just as beautiful
Mine are the yellow gold (The e-ring is one carat)

Oh yes, I am all for lab created rings. Ever since I watched Blood Diamond I no longer want a real diamond. And the lab created ones are definately just as beautiful. The ring you picked out is gorgeous. Go for it. It doesn’t matter what anyone but you thinks. You’re the one that has to wear for the rest of your life.

Dump this loser. You’ll be arguing over money the rest of your marriage.

It’s beautiful .. I don’t think that anyone should be able to tell and maybe someday you can have a real diamond, I know a lot of people who just got a “ring” not a diamond or a sapphire, but a ring to symbolize their love.
I think as long as he’s giving you something that he can afford to show how much he loves you and his intention to marry you than it should not matter, its no ones business but yours.
Congrats!!

I would get what you can afford. People who know you and know your financial situation, will see the large LAB diamond and either think, a. its fake, b. your irrisposible with money, or c. lying about your finances. None of which are flattering to you and assuming its fake is probably the best thing they could think. Why not just get a beautiful diamond band and then for your 5 year add on another ring if you want that diamond ring look.
Right now Kay’s is having a 30% off bridal diamond sale.
But here is somthing in the same price range as the fake ring, and if you get the 30% off it will be even cheaper.
Here is a beautiful band too….

I think I would consider it. I know people who have done it. What can give such rings away to an extent is getting too large of a stone, when people might wonder how they could afford it. Also sometimes you’ll see a cubic zirconium of a fairly nice size but the gold setting is too thin for what the stone would be worth. The setting needs to match the stone.
You may want to consider a real colored gemstone which would be real but cheaper and rather unique. Plus a ring made up of multiple smaller diamonds that looks a little more like a cocktail ring can be pretty but cheaper. Also a ring with alternating small diamonds and colored gem stones can be cheaper but pretty.
Also a ring in the family, such as an inherited grandmothers ring can be an alternative.
I wouldn’t buy a ring that I haven’t seen in person.

To answer your question, most people will not be able to tell the difference, unless they look closely. The difference between lab-created diamonds is the lack of flaws. Even really excellent quality natural diamonds can have flaws and imperfections in color. If you compare them side by side, you will be able to tell, lab created will sparkle more.
Even if it doesn’t look exactly like a natural diamond, who cares? And if that does bother you, why not try a stone other than a diamond or try stores that are going out of business. You can find really good deals that way.
The ring you picked is pretty though.
February 8, 2009
Why not? You are buying smaller, so its not going to be obvious that you went with a lab created diamond. I see nothing wrong with it. You are smart to stick with something affordable.
Another positive note is that if its ever lost or stolen, its not going to be a major setback financially.
We didn’t even get an engagement ring and we’ve been married nearly 30 years now. The lack of an engagement ring didn’t make any difference to our happiness.
The only ring that really matters is your wedding band. Don’t feel that you have to have a ring to show you’re engaged.
Your wedding band and vows are what really matter. The wedding doesn’t have to be large or showy, nor does the wedding ring. The marriage has to come from a deep commitment to each other and that has nothing to do with things.
The important thing is to marry the right guy, and make it a lifetime commitment, on both your part and his.
There WILL be bad times, stuff happens, but if you are committed to making it work NO MATTER WHAT, then you will be together for a lifetime.
Congrats and good luck!

The ring is pretty. Who cares how it was made?
February 10, 2009
I’m rather a snob when it comes to diamonds - I like them and always want more! And I want real ones…. sorry, that’s just how I’m made.
February 12, 2009
Sure, but for that price you can get real diamonds - here’s a whole set -
and even for less -

This set even includes his ring -

The diamonds that you are talking about are definitely not going to look similar to the original ones. If you are looking for affordable collections, I would suggest you to visit
They have some really affordable pieces of jewelry. I am sure this will help you out.

Personally i wouldnt get a created diamond, as i love real diamonds, but if your not worried about having a real diamond and you are happy with getting a created diamond then just get it. No one will actually study it to notice if it is fake diamond. even so just get that for now and get a real diamond in few years, no one has to know.
I have seen a created diamond in person and i could tell slightly as the size was big, so maybe go for a smaller size diamond
Also if you are having real diamonds in the wedding band you might see the difference. so make sure you get both as created diamonds.

Hi,
I used “Credit Solution” to settle my debt and improve my credit score. They managed to reduce my debt up to 58%.It’s legitimate.I came across this company on NBC News Special Edition.Check it out here:
Engagement rings need not always contain diamonds. Popular trends include using gemstones as sidestones as well as other precious stones.
