Holy Cow- $7,5000 your lady must be worth it! =) Can I marry you?! lol j/k Im happlily married! But to answer your question the best way to purchase an engagment ring is to get ideas from her friends or mother or someone that knows your soon to be wife very well and can keep the secret or if she has “hinted” to you already you probably already know her likes and dislikes…. I would say Zales and Kays are pretty good stores but in NYC I am sure there are waaaaaaaaaay more stores than there are here in WI… But those 2 stores have been the best around here. Best of luck and I hope she says YES!!!

i went with buying the stone, and then having the setting made for it. I would stay away from jewlery shops and just go to the diamond dealers you will get a much better deal. Check out Diamond row…47th between 6&5th

also dont be worried to go up stairs into some ’shady’ looking offices as this is where you will get the best deals, just make sure to get papers to go along with the stone. If you see a show room, you will pay for their rent just remember that

We have been shopping around and I was thinking about this too, but this is what we found out….

The pre-set rings usually have a different prong setting than the ones that you buy the stone seperate. I prefered this look much better, I wanted a 3-stone ring and the pre-set ones looked much more seamless and together, where as the others seemed like the center stone didnt really blend. It had weird prongs and there was always a space between the stones.

On the other hand, if you go with a loose stone, these can be upgraded later without having to change the whole setting. Pre-sets cannot be upgraded, you will have to go with a whole new ring. Also you can get a more unique look this way. I guess it is just your preferance, but I would say for a multi-stone ring go with pre-set, for a solitaire, go with a loose diamond

Engagement rings need not always contain diamonds. Popular trends include using gemstones as sidestones as well as other precious stones.
