Honestly, do some looking online first and see something you may like, then go to a jewelry store (reputable one) and express to them what you want. They should be able to help you.

Go to your nearest jeweler and ask about custom settings or where you can have that done. Congradulations!!!!

I had a custom setting in a colored stone as well. I don’t much care for the look of diamonds and wanted something unique and special for US. I chose to have his birthstone as my main stone (aquamarine) and my own birthstone for the side settings. The aquamarine is a high quality 5mm heart shaped stone, and the smaller stones are circle cut and equal .10 carat all told. The band is in 14k white gold. The total cost? $640 …much less than he would have paid if he had gone and gotten me a diamond, and the ring is much more special to me because it is something we designed.
I don’t know the jewelers in your area, but we went into a respectable jeweler here and asked about custom settings with aquamarines. They brought us empty settings, aquamarines of various sizes, cuts, clarity, etc and let us piece it together.
Avoid jewelry stores in a mall, they generally have to pay higher rates to have the “prime” real estate and that cost gets passed on to their customers.

A diamond ring of size is very expensive. You might want to consider a Diamonque set into a gold setting ring from QVC. With the $$$ you save, you could spend it on the honeymoon, downpayment on a house, or a car. At least take a look at them. If you don’t like it, there is a 30 day no questions asked return policy. Scroll to the bottom of the page and see customer’s reviews. Look around on QVC, they have bands that would go with it. I am sending a page for a canary stone, with side clear stones.

Pink sapphires are really popular right now, and blue topaz is beautiful. Just ask to see gemstone rings, and look at lots of gemstone rings online so you can see styles you like. It probably isn’t necessary to get a custom setting unless you want one. The style you describe is pretty easy to find.

A lot of people like bluenile.com, and most chain stores have online stores as well, if you’re just looking for ideas. My fiance got my ring (a sapphire with a diamond on each side) from northwestjewelry.com and got a great deal.

My ring is a gorgeous aquarmarine with a total of 8 tiny diamonds flanking it in a filligreed setting.

A brighter blue to consider would also be topaz which is a VERY blue.

A nice yellow gem is Citrine. It’s lovely.

The nice thing about coloured stones is they are WAY less expensive than diamonds. :) Good luck!
They have lovely coloured stone rings!

There are lovely rings with coloured stones. For pink, pink sapphire is pretty (but pricey), and pink topaz is a great option. For blue, again, sapphire or topaz..-White-Gold-1-10-ct-Diamond-Aquamarine-Ring/1402292/product.html.-White-Gold-Pink-Tourmaline-1-6-Ct.-Diamond-Ring/1088582/product.html
– ok, there are just too many!!! There are TONS of options with gems!
One caution, though, be careful when choosing, because it may be hard to get a matching wedding band - not stone-wise, but because of the shapes of most of the gemstones.

Make sure you get a hard stone like a sapphire or a ruby so it is less likely to crack. Princess Diana had a sapphire engagement ring. There are some pink rubies.

If you intend to wear your engagement ring every day then the hardness of a stone should be taken into account, here is an article that explains some of the major issues on choosing a stone to set in a ring, .
With the stones hardness in mind I would recomend either Sapphire or Ruby for your ring. Sapphire is found in all shades of blue and you are also able to find yellow sapphire too. There are varying shades of red and pink rubies too. Here is some information on sapphire,
and Ruby, .

Congratulations on your engagement and I hope this information will be useful to you.

a nice yellow or a decent pink or blue is very, very expensive so an alternative would be blue or pink sapphires as a center or side stones with white diamonds on the side here are some ideas what it may look like

Engagement rings need not always contain diamonds. Popular trends include using gemstones as sidestones as well as other precious stones.
