My ring needs to be resized, how much will it cost?

Britty asked:

I have a diamond engagement ring from kay jewelers. Recently it’s been sliding around on my finger, and annoying me. It’s a 4 1/2 and I think I need it down to a 4. I don’t have the warranty info on it because my finance bought it and he is in away on deployment in military. I don’t know if he still has the warranty or receipt.

It shouldn’t be two expensive, it cost my mum about £40 a year ago…

I took my ring to an independent local jeweler and it only cost $20 and he did an excellent job. Large corporate chains will cost more because they have to send your ring away. The local jeweler will do the work and it usually will only take a day or two. I was able to pick my ring up the next day.

My soon to be mil got hers done for I believe 20 ( but that was for a set). It cost more to add then take away. I got a ring of mine made bigger and it cost 24. Go to a small jeweler not a large chain.

Normally to size down it’s about $35. Sometimes the ring slides because it’s just big enough to slide over your knuckle but the rest of your finger is smaller, so make sure you have the jeweler size your finger. You might have to leave it a 4.5 and just have him add the two little balls to the inside of your ring to help it not slide. Normally that’s what they are for, it’s still easy to get over your knuckle but the balls keep the ring in place for the most part.

Depends what its made of and the quality of the work. Mine is white gold, and i got it done by a reputable jeweler and it cost me $100.

Engagement rings need not always contain diamonds. Popular trends include using gemstones as sidestones as well as other precious stones.
