Depends on the jeweler. Some do and some don’t charge for setting the stone in the ring. Ask a few places. Find the style of setting you want. Ask them. Really the best way to find out. Prices will vary with metal type, setting type.

They usually do charge. In some cases they might not if you bought the setting from them. Be sure to go to a jeweler with a good rep. Loose stones (in fact any stones) can easily be switched for fakes or ones of less value.

If you got the setting online a jeweler would set the stone in the setting for a nominal fee. If you buy the setting from the jeweler, then putting the stone in the setting would either be included in the price or it would be a nominal fee as well.

I have a jeweler here who will mount loose stones - I’ve had him do one for me with a peridot for my mother in law. I ordered the stone from eBay, and had him mount it in an existing setting.

As far as the cost, ask. If you go to a jewelry store to purchase the setting, ask them. There might be a nominal charge, but it should be too much.

Congrats on the coming engagement!

a jeweler may charge to put it in the setting. you’ll have to pay for the setting also if you’re getting it from him. yes, he will put it in a setting of you got the diamond online (what my fiance did). good luck!

Be really careful about what jeweler you bring your diamond to. I’ve heard so many stories about jewelers switching the diamonds……
Anyway, go to a place that advertises jewelry repair, because most jewelers won’t touch rings that don’t come from them. It won’t be free no matter which path you chose. If you buy it online make sure it has the head (setting). It will probably cost you about 100 bucks.

alot of jeweler’s mount loose stones but you have to get a setting… you can probably buy one from the jewelry store you are getting your diamond mounted from. The setting can cost you anywhere from 200 to a few thousand dollars… if you buy the setting from the jewelry store; they may not make you pay a fee for putting it in but chances are you will because you didnt buy the diamond from the store. I’m not too sure how much it would be… each place is different but I know where I worked we charged around 50 dollars.

Hope that helped and good luck

Engagement rings need not always contain diamonds. Popular trends include using gemstones as sidestones as well as other precious stones.
