Engagement ring and wedding band?

Monday, December 27th, 2010 | Weddings

Nicole H asked:

I have a beautiful engagement ring that has diamonds on both sides. I’m unsure as to what type of wedding band I should get because I don’t want the wedding band to cover up the side diamonds. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, due to not wanting to disturb the side diamonds, I probably would not fuse the two rings.
A plain band would work but I just don’t want anything to cover up the side diamonds.
Yes, slickmic it’s kind of like that picture, but the diamonds don’t protrude out the side. Thanks for your input!

A plain band would work just fine

no i would keep them separate…great idea!..could you look for a band that matches the other ring…with diamonds..on the side and then it would look like 2 strains of diamonds on each side of your finger..?..just a thought..good luck

when you said it has the diamonds on the side, do you mean like this?

It is a little hard without a picture. Is there a center stone? Are they raised? Style of cut?

Many times and I did this for my wife you can get a curved band with or without stones that will compliment your engagement ring and add to it rather than take away from it.

I absolutely love Eternity bands - that is where there is one row of tiny diamonds going all the way around the band. They are great to stack belowor on top of your engagement ring. If you need something cheaper, they have them only going half-way around, and you could just keep that side towards the front.

Ok, so my feel on wedding bands…
You know that “holiday” they added not long ago called “sweetest day”, Wedding bands are kind of like that…..another way to make money.
I have a beautiful ring with diamonds on the side also. I am not getting a wedding band. It would just look ridiculous and really, it isn’t necessary.
Congrats to you and good luck :)

when they solder the rings together they only do it at the bottom, like the part under your finger. not all the way around.

You could always wear your engagement ring on your right hand. Then you can get a gorgeous wedding band!

My engagement ring is like that as well and I would suggest soldering your bands together once you find the band. It’s not a good thing for your two rings to rub against each other and you will lose a diamond that way.
I actually decided to have one of my wedding bands soldered and let the other side of my engagement ring show. I just have a real low wedding band with diamonds set in a prong setting. It’s not a big deal. As long as one side of my engagement rings shows the side detail and diamonds, I don’t mind covering up the other side a little. My other wedding band I’ll only wear occasionally since I do really enjoy the details on the side of my engagement ring.
My suggestion is to just got try a bunch of bands on with your ring, you’re not going to know what will look best by looking online. Then when you find the band you like, solder it together or like I said, it will rub and you will lose the side diamonds anyway. I saw that happen more times than I could count when I worked in jewelry.

Engagement rings need not always contain diamonds. Popular trends include using gemstones as sidestones as well as other precious stones.
