RnYcab asked:

I recently purchased a diamond engagement ring from an antique dealer. There is an eight digit number along side the carat weight of the diamond preceded with a diamond emblem. Does that number mean it is a certified diamond? If so, where can I find the info for this ring?

What’s the best way to approach getting a diamond ring cleaned and inspected?

I’ve been married for 15 years and have a beautiful diamond engagement ring. I want to leave it at a jeweler for cleaning and inspection. However, I know nothing about diamonds, and it occurred to me that it would be really easy for someone to switch diamonds on me without my knowledge. Is this a legitimate concern, or should I just trust a reputable jeweler? And suggestions?

Thinking of getting a diamond engagement ring with pink sapphires on the side. How unusual is this?

I am a bit traditional, and I still really want my engagement ring to look like an engagement ring, not just a fashion ring. But the center stone will be a diamond… the pink sapphires are on the sides and tiny.

Ladies, would you wear a fake diamond engagement ring?

Nikki asked:

Ladies would you be offended your man wanted to buy a fake diamond ring for your engagement?
My bf and I have been talking (no serious plans-yet) about marriage and our future plans together. The subject of the ring came up and we talked about size, cut, band design, etc, so we went online to design a ring. The cost astounded us both! Over $8000 for what I thought was a simply designed ring (yes I know there are a lot of factors!)…which lead us to look at other stones such as moissianite. Much more affordable and very comparable in many way to a diamond.
So, back to my question. Would you be okay with wearing a “fake” diamond ring? And would you tell people it is fake-if they asked?

**The ring band would be white gold-so no green fingers :)

Antique engagement ring and diamond certification?

M L asked:

In order to avoid any regret or ethical dillemma in supporting the diamond industry, I am opting to buy an antique diamond engagement ring from an antique jewelry dealer. I have found a gorgeous 1920s filligree solitaire, and would like to purchase. The diamond is an old european cut. The return policy is “no returns”, so I want to be as careful as possible. Question is, are old diamonds like this often certified? How much does it cost to certify them? Also, the ring is 14k white gold (nickel alloy) with recent rhodium plating. Could the rhodium plating cover up any serious flaws or damage (no problems are apparent)? Thanks!

michmounty asked:

really the best cut diamonds in the world, or is it just a marketing ploy?

When looking at them with that purple viewer, it does appear that the hearts are perfect and the fire burst is neat, but is it really worth as much as they cost?

Are they Hearts on Fire or Farts on Hire?

Help?! Tiffany Setting Diamond Engagement ring?! Yes?! No?

LIDA asked:

Ok, so my boyfriend bought me a .39 diamond engagement ring in a platinum Tiffany setting. Picture here:

http://www.tiffany.com/Engagement/Item.aspx?subCategoryid=1001

I always wanted a 1 karot emerand cut diamond ring with diamonds on the side, but right now neither of us have much money. My boyfriend got the Tiffany ring for $1,500, which is a great deal since it’s currently worth $2,650 at the Tiffany store. I am still waiting for the ring to arrive & am unsure if I will like it since the setting looks fairly plain. My fiance says that I can return the ring and choose a different one if I want, but that means more money spent on a non-discounted ring. I want the ring to look nice without breaking his bank account, but I just don’t know if the TIffany setting ring will cut it. Honestly, has anyone ever purchased this ring before & are you happy with it? Also, do you think that my diamond size is too small? Should we save up for a larger one later? Or go for the discount?

I have a three stone diamond engagement ring that I no longer need, where and how can I sell it? I have an appraisal signed by a professional company, so I already know the worth.

Engagement rings need not always contain diamonds. Popular trends include using gemstones as sidestones as well as other precious stones.
