Do you think my girlfriend will notice if I get her a cubic zirconia engagement ring instead of a diamond?

We’ve dated for 5 1/2 years now, and we both know that i’m about to pop the big question. The only problem is, I’ve recently come on to some hard times financially. If I bought a cubic zirconia ring (WAY CHEAPER! JUST AS SHINEY!) do you think she would find out? get angry?

Is it tacky to buy yourself a right-hand diamond ring?

Curious! asked:

My boyfriend and I have been together on and off for 6 years. We have a good relationship but are no where near marriage. A lot of my friends are getting married, and I am happy for them, but feel slightly left out. It seems like so much importance is placed on the “step” of getting married. I want to remind myself that just because I am not married, I am still a successful, smart young woman. I’ve heard of and seen right hand diamond rings that symbolize just that. Do you think they are tacky? I am not going to wear it as an engagement ring, it’s going to be on my right hand.

When DeBeers only began marketing that lie in the early 50’s? Engagement rings are not necessary, let alone diamond engagement rings. People dont buy into the commercial brainwashing!
There will be a ring, the wedding band.

How many people actually get a diamond engagement ring?

Jenny asked:

My boyfriend keeps asking me what kind of ring I would want. I have never been a huge fan of diamonds. I have noticed that more and more people now get a colored stone with small diamonds around it or just a band. I really want an engagement ring, but would perfer something non-traditional, maybe blue. Has anyone done this or would you do this? What do you think?

In addition to non-diamond rings that are just diamond-like, are there also rings that, for instance, come with a certificate that part of the proceeds go to fighting the evils of the diamond trade?

Diamond engagement rings?

GSUgirl asked:

I’m doing a report on diamonds and I would like to know how women and men feel about diamond engagment rings. How big of a role do they play in engagements? Do women feel like the diamond says a lot about the couple’s love? How do men view this purchase? Is it important that the diamond shows their love to the perfect woman? Do women and men feel like this shows a certain social status? Do you see buying diamonds as a good investment? How do you see the value of a good diamond? I would like some first hand answers from married or engaged men and women.

Engagement rings need not always contain diamonds. Popular trends include using gemstones as sidestones as well as other precious stones.
