Which jewelry stores offer engagement rings with Isreali or other non-”blood” diamonds?
Sunday, April 4th, 2010 | Weddings | 6 Comments
My boyfriend is going to propose to me and has recently brought up our going ring shopping together. I’m thrilled, but I couldn’t wear a ring with a stone on it that some poor child slave mined. I’ve heard Isreali diamonds are ok, but I was wondering if there are diamonds from any other place that are also non-”blood” diamonds, and which major jewelry stores sell them. Also, do “legit” diamonds cost very much more? We’re on a tight budget, and I want to know how much I should expect this to set us back (I’m buying him one too).

I am looking for a ring that isnt a typical engagement ring. I want something preferably without a diamond and not necessarily a setting with a big stone or anything- i want something much more unique- like a flower or butterfly made of stones or soemthing along those lines… anyone know any good sites with some suggestions?
What is your opinion of this engagement ring?

I am in love with this ring. I showed it to my boyfriend as a style that I would like. I just want to know other peoples opinion.

Just an FYI, yes it is on e-bay but it is also on it’s own web site. It’s not an auction it’s a store. I’m just saying I like the style.

My boyfriend and I have been together for 4 years. I would take a twist tie from him if thats what he wanted to give me. I’m not marrying the guy that can buy me this ring, I’m going to marry him b/c he is the love of my life. We are both adults and have good jobs. We can afford a ring such as this if we wanted.
I do think this is an expensive ring. I have a friend that is a jeweler and anything I like, we are going to have it made by him to assure we are getting our money worth.
They do have it in an ascher cut as well, very pretty.

Engagement Rings Poll?
Saturday, December 19th, 2009 | Weddings | 23 Comments
Okay girls, answer honestly….
1. What size (in carats) do you think the standard engagement ring should be?
2. Would you be embarrassed or hurt if your fiance gave you a smaller-than-expected diamond?
3. Do you love your engagement ring completely, or is there anything you would change about it?
Would you be mad if your engagement ring turned out NOT to be a diamond?

My fiancee’s Mom, sister and I were hanging out when the sister accidently let it slip that my engagement ring is technically not a real diamond — it’s a moissanite stone.
I looked it up on the internet and basically moissanite looks like a diamond. here’s a pic: http://www.moissanite.com/
I took it to Kay Jewelers and they confirmed this. I love my ring, but feel weird about fiancee not mentioning it.
Should I tell him I know? Or just feign ignorance? Would you be mad if you were me or just keep loving the ring?

Do you think my girlfriend will notice if I get her a cubic zirconia engagement ring instead of a diamond?

We’ve dated for 5 1/2 years now, and we both know that i’m about to pop the big question. The only problem is, I’ve recently come on to some hard times financially. If I bought a cubic zirconia ring (WAY CHEAPER! JUST AS SHINEY!) do you think she would find out? get angry?
Has marriages/engagement got too commerical?

If you consider that DeBeer practically lives off engagement diamond rings and creates loads of ads to show us how anything but a diamond is bad and then artifically hike the price.
Wedding planners make a full time living ,caterers the list just goes on.
Ads are shown all over TV,web and radio showing expensive weddings with smiling folks.
Yet apart from a few documentaries no one talks about the cost, the fact it empties the pockets of newly weds etc.
Has the true value of what a wedding is about lost in the commerical money spinner?
It amazes me how so few couples think of plans beyond that day.
2 good points so far.
1)Not many seems to think post wedding which is a cause of break up.
$20k will go a long way to making your inital life happy.
2)”its been my dream” .When you become an adult you should weigh your dreams vs reality.
Say your hubby decides his dream is to be a couch potato for 6 months would you agree?
Even if you do you will get mad after a few months.
But hey its his dream to watch tv 24/7 and get fat for 6 months and he probably lose as much income as you would on a wedding.
Even less so since he actually has to spent on transport, sweat ,eating at work for that period and then you toss all that money on one day which is forgotten by most after that.
Engagement rings need not always contain diamonds. Popular trends include using gemstones as sidestones as well as other precious stones.
