He told me to tell him the types of rings I like, well I want a ring like this but I don’t literally want to point this one out so what would be the best way to describe this style?

Small engagement ring?

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009 | Weddings | 19 Comments

The girl who came to stay asked:

My boyfriend, well now fiancee, proposed to me recently. I have been waiting for this for quite a while and I am very excited. We are very young, I am 17, and he can’t afford the “traditional” diamond engagement ring. The ring he got me is actually a “promise ring” but we saw it one day while we were shopping and I fell in love with it. It is a very small carat size (1/7) and when people see it they just say “Oh.” or “Thats cute.” It hurts my feelings a lot and I’m not sure how to deal with their reactions. What would you do/ say? Have any of you had a similar problem?
We wouldn’t actually be getting married for 4+ years, for all you saying I’m too young.
To “Meh”- I love my ring, it’s just other people who don’t. I can tell by the way they look at me or say it. My problem is I get very hurt about their reactions and I don’t know what to say.

Thanks to all who are giving me great answers.

Not very nice comments on non-diamond engagement rings?

nova_queen_28 asked:

I’m just wondering if anyone else out there with a non-diamond ring has gotten bashed by family members (or friends)? Or maybe my relatives are just nasty. The most rude comment was “couldn’t he afford a diamond?”. Others have been “are you sure you really didn’t want a diamond”.
I have a BEAUTIFUL aquamarine center stone. It is gorgeous! It is just what I wanted. I love it! And I remind my fiance all the time how much I love it and how thrilled I am with it (I’m also a little afraid he might hear some of these comments and second-guess his choice).
Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience.

I’m not a fan of diamonds, and my guy is talking about what sort of ring I want, so I would like to know if there is a stone, or if pearls have the longevity that a diamond would have. Thanks!

When buying an engagement ring do you wait for your diamond to get set?

diamond engagement rings
advice needed…. asked:

We bought a diamond from a different vendor than the person we got the engagement ring. When we’re getting the diamond set in the ring, do you wait for it to get done? Do you trust the jeweler to set your diamond in the right ring?

Why does an engagement ring HAVE TO have a diamond?

Lain asked:

It came to my attention more recently about the horrible conditions and how people are seriously exploited because of the diamond industry. My feelings toward my boyfriend getting me a diamond engagement ring have always been, well he doesnt have to get me a diamond..actually i love sapphires. but I have had plenty of women tell me that is unacceptable…that like diamonds are required…. but here is my question. Does it really matter that much? And if its such a requirement doesnt that make your engagement ring less unique???
thanks for the answers. I have a close italian family and i brought this up once and it caused an uproar lol. Oh well…while I am at it maybe i should get a hot pink wedding dress…i think im going to stick with the idea of a sapphire ring :) and on top of that i much rather put more money into the honeymoon

The diamond you buy at a jewrey store could be 2nd hand. How would you know. Where is the best place to buy an engagement ring if you want a new stone? Where would I find the best value?

Engagement rings need not always contain diamonds. Popular trends include using gemstones as sidestones as well as other precious stones.
